Canada have closed out the Group Stage of World T20 Qualifiers in Dubai with an 18 run win over Nepal in Sharjah.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Canada struggled early as the in form Ruvindu Gunasekera was dismissed for 1 run.  Rizwan Cheema (15)  blasted a few boundaries before making his way back to the pavilion and so went the woes of Canada's middle order who all made it to double digits, however were unable to carry on.

Jimmy Hansra top scored for the Canadians with a 34 ball 29 run performance as Canada set Nepal a target of 101.

The Nepalese response was spirited as they set about to chase the total in the required 12.2 overs to leap frog Canada on Net Run Rate.

However sharp work from the spinners, Junaid SIddique (3-13), Zahid Husain (1-11), and Jimmy Hansra (1-15), ensured that Canada always had Nepal in check.

Canada will now get set for an elimination battle with familiar foes Ireland on Thursday.

Canada breezed by Denmark on Monday with an agressive 95 run performance from opening batsmen Ruvindu Gunasekera and a supportive 43 run innings from Hiral Patel.

Coach Michael DIghton was happy to back in the wins after a heavy defeat to Afghanistan on Sunday.

"An excellent win by the boys today and a real confidence boost ahead of our must win game against Nepal tomorrow. Ruvindu and Hirals' 109 run partnership was outstanding and what we have been looking for, with both playing good innings. Tyson Gordon hit the last ball for 6 to give us momentum going into our bowling innings. He has to be the fastest runner between wickets in world cricket! Big Henry was the pick of the bowlers and generated considerable pace."

Canada now face Nepal on Tuesday in what will be a one match showdown with former Canadian Coach Pubudu Dassanayke for a chance to enter the playoff stage of the tournament.

Canada's winning streak came to a crashing halt as they lost to Afghanistan by 41 runs at the ICC T20 Cricke World Cup qualification tournament in Dubai. Batting first, the Afghan's pushed on to 174-8 despite a 3-16 performance from Zahid Hussain.

In reply, Canada started positively and were 54-3 in 5 overs with Junaid Siddiqui (21) promoted to help push up the run rated. Despite the solid platform, the middle order could not maintain the momentum with only Nitish Kumar (38) showing some sort of resistance. Canada were bottled up for 133, losing their second match to a fellow high performance country in the tournament.

Canada now face must win's against Denmark and Nepal to move into round 2.

Canada have defeated regional rivals Bermuda in convincing fashion today at the ICC World T20 Qualiiers.

Losing the toss and sent into bat, the Canadians amassed a sizeable total of 175-8 from their 20 overs on the back of opening batsmen, Ruvindu Gunasekera's 48 ball 83 run enslaught. Tyson Gordon also made a valuable contribution lower down the order with a quick fire 16 ball 39 run innings that carried the Canadians to what would be a winning total.

The Bermudan response was meek with only the hard hitting veteran Lionel Cann registering a measure of resistance with 33 runs from 21 balls.

Skipper Rizwan Cheema was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-16 from his 4 overs and rookie British Columbia seamer Manny Aulakh collecting a pair.  Henry Osinde, Junaid Siddiqui, Zahid Hussain, and Jimmy Hansra all snagged one wicket a piece to limit Bermuda well short of the required target at 103.

In registering the 72 run victory, the Canadian record moves to 3-1 and second place in Group A standings behind table toppers Afghanistan.

The tournament enters a rest day on Saturday before action resumes for the Canadians on Sunday with a featured heavyweight clash with Afghanistan.

The match, starting at 6:00am EDT, will be STREAMED LIVE on QUIPU.TV.

Canada has completed a clincial win over Hong Kong by 8 wickets on Tuesday.  At the GCA in Dubai, Hong Kong skipper Jaimie Atkinson called right and backed his charges to put up a big score as they did the previous day.

It was however Canada's bowler's who did all the damage quickly reducing Hong Kong to 23-4 within the batting powerplay. With Henry Osinde (1-12) and Junaid Siddiqui (3-17) tying them down, Hong Kong struggled to 81-8 in 20 overs. Siddiqui was well deserved of his Man of Match honours for dismantling the Hong Kong middle order which included Hong Kong skipper Jamie Atkinson. Rizwan Cheema (2-12) and Maninder Aulakh (2-8) picked up the balance of the wickets.

Canada set about the run chase in a professional manner with Ruvindu Gunasekera and (14) and Hiral Patel (40) put on 36 for the first wicket. Patel and Nitish Kumar (22*) took Canada almost to the end before Rizwan Cheema (2*) joined the party to finish the job.

For his part, head coach Michael Dighton was excited that his team seemed to be gaining traction after the opening day loss to Netherlands.

"The Canadian team produced a clinical performance against Hong Kong today with a comfortable win. Our bowlers were terrific against an opposition that had racked up 167 runs in 17.3 overs the day before and full credit must go to them. Henry and Junaid were outstanding up front and were backed up through the middle and end by Zahid bhai, Manny and the skipper. Our batsmen had no problems knocking off the target with Hiral "kabaddi" Patel making a workmanlike 40 runs. We are all looking forward to the Bermuda clash at the DICS tomorrow."
