CANADA VS. WINWARD ISLANDS
Canada (0-1) has lost its opening match of the Caribbean T20 tournament by 9 wickets to Winward Islands (2-0). Skipper Jimmy Hansra called right on the toss and backed his men to put up a score. The powerplay overs may have proved him right as Hiral Patel (11) and Ruvindu Gunasekera (38) raced to 48-1 from 5 overs until Patel's departure sparked a stunning collapse.
Wickets fell in quick succession as only Raza Rehman (34) on debut shepparded the tail to take Canada past the century mark. Canada finished on 111-7 in 20 overs.
In reply, Canada were unable to get early penetration into the Winward Islands attack as only Henry Osinde (1-13) was able to pick up a wicket. Johnson Charles (61) did most of the damage for Winwards as they coasted to a 9 wicket victory.
The match was broadcast live across Canada on Sportsnet ONE and was the first time in history that Canada appeared on a major national network in Canada.
