CANADA (1-3) DEF. UGANDA (1-3)
Canada has won its first match of the World Twenty 20 qualifier with a 44 run win over Uganda on Tuesday. Batting first, Canada were again in trouble with top order woes as Hamza Tariq and Ruvindu Gunasekera departed cheaply leaving Canada in a huge hole. Some cautious and responsible batting from Ashish Bagai (40) and 40 ball half century from red hot Jimmy Hansra (58*) saw Canada to a respectable total of 137-7 from 20 overs.
In reply, Uganda quickly found themselves 6 down for under 50 owing some smart bowling from Jeremy Gordon (2-9) and some sharp fielding effecting 3 run-outs. Despite a late charge, Uganda were all out for 93 in 17.2 overs.
Canada moves up the table with their first win and now take on hosts UAE on Friday.
Less than 24 hours after a shocking loss to Hong Kong, 0-3 Canada will look to get off the snide against Uganda on Tuesday. Canada are bottom of group A with losses to USA, Ireland and Hong Kong while Uganda stunned Italy with a one wicket win on Tuesday to capture their first win.
Canada's top order continues to struggle as Hiral Patel and Rizwan Cheema haven't yet hit stride but decent peformances from Bagai, Gunasekera and Hansra have kept opposition bowlers at bay. The bowlers have not yet taken 10 wickets in a match and will be looking to get on top of the Ugandan team early in the innings.
Canada's Henry Osinde and Kenneth Kamyuka are both born in Uganda.
