Associates Back in World Cup

Celebrations Muted by T20 Decision
June 28, 2011

The International Cricket Council has reversed its decision to exclude associates from the 2015 Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The format and timing of the qualification tournament is still to be decided but it is expected that it will follow the format used in 2009 where Canada finished second in South Africa. The decision ensures that Canada will have a chance to qualify for what would be their fifth cricket world cup and fourth in succession. Canada previously played in 1979, 2003, 2007 and 2011.

The ICC has also decided to return the T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2014 to the format used in 2010 which includes 12 teams of which 2 will be associates.
