ALBERTA AND ONTARIO SCORE WINS ON DAY ONE OF CANADA CUP

Alberta and Ontario struck early blows at the u18 Canada Cup in Vancouver to both move to 1-0 as the tournament got underway Monday at Hugo Ray Park in West Vancouver.

On Hugo Ray 1, Alberta sucessfully chased down 183 runs set by the hosts made on the back of a century (104) from Avneet Virdi. Virdi's innings helped BC recover from 21-5 to get to a fighting score. Wardaan Ul Haq (4-25). Alberta got off to the chase in good nick as Ishant Sharma (65) and Parin Modi (39) put on 85 runs for the first wicket. Virdi (2-41) continued his good day but it was not enough as the visitors got over the line in the 46th over.

BC vs. Alberta

In the second match of the day, Ontario got contributions from all their batsmen including 51 from Siddant Sherar to pace them to 252-6 from 50 overs. Rakesh Ramoutar 3-53 was the pick of the bowlers. In reply, the rest of Canada team had no reply for Kunal Bhatt (5-17) as they were bundled out for 92.

Tuesday's games see Alberta take on Ontario while BC takes on the Rest of Canada.
